Dr Viken Yerganyan
Orthopedic surgeon in Brussels specialized in hand and wrist surgery and microsurgery.
About Dr Yerganyan
Born and raised in Brussels, I studied at the ‘Université Libre de Bruxelles’ (ULB) in Belgium. I obtained my medical degree in 2013 then I was certified as a specialist in orthopedic surgery in 2019. In 2020 I completed a fellowship in hand surgery in France (Clinique St Martin – Bordeaux). This additional training was a real springboard in the mastery of this specialty which requires practice and rigor. The same year I trained in microsurgery and oriented myself towards wrist arthroscopy. Currently I continue to develop my skills through seminars, congresses and internationals traineeships. I am happy to be able to offer you state of the art treatments in hand surgery using endoscopic and ultrasound assisted devices.
Diagnoses
The study of each pathology is based on patient’s complaints, physical examination and analysis of medical imaging. The optimal management of the wrist, hand and finger trauma is essential in my specialty. The most frequently encountered pathologies are carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, De Quervain’s tendonitis, ganglion cysts of the wrist and Dupuytren’s disease.
Degenerative diseases include rhizarthrosis (also known as osteoarthritis of the base of the thumb) and the presence of digital mucous cysts of the long fingers. It should also be noted that certain old traumas can be responsible for osteoarthritis of the carpal bones and require specific treatment. Traumatic injuries are frequent. Often we see finger sprains, wounds with tendon lacerations, nail trauma and wrist or hand fractures.
Whatever your pain is, urgent and specific care is necessary.
A personal and human approach of surgery
Combining concentration and meticulousness, hand surgery is more than a job, it’s a way of life. As a child, I watched the prowess of hand surgeons giving children the chance to have a functional hand, manual workers to practice their passion, and musicians to play their instrument. For those reasons I decided to go to Medical School.
My primary goal is the improvement of my patients’ quality of life whether their problems are related to emergencies or the passing of time. My surgical internships to Denmark, Madagascar, Switzerland, France and Armenia helped me better understand the needs and demands of each patient.
We are all unique and optimal care requires being able to listen and understand the problems of each patient in order to treat them as a whole. Patient-centered care has taken a major place in my daily practice and that is why I work alongside a dedicated team of nurses and physiotherapists.
